Downtown Pomona is the kind of thriving urban village that many loft-livers are looking for. There are funky shops, antique stores, and ethnic markets. There are regular public concerts and headline acts at clubs like the Glass House. There are restaurants serving everything from your morning pan dolce to classy date-night French cuisine. For auto-phobes it even has a commuter rail and bus station. In other words, it’s truly a multicultural, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood, and a good chunk of it is themed around the arts.
Dubbed the Pomona Arts Colony, this is one of the largest arts hubs in Southern California. There are a dozen galleries, two huge monthly art walks (Second Saturday and Last Saturday), a large variety of non-profit arts, public school arts, and creative arts companies. Not surprisingly, the Arts Colony has the oldest, and most established loft scene in the Inland Empire. The total number of lofts is pushing 200, ranging from storefront live-work units to upper floor “big city-style” lofts to brand new loft condos. For anybody curious about lofts, the Pomona Arts Colony is a must see.
